Raise my rev limit from 7600 to 7800 rpm

I'm raising this by 200rom at the same time I am tuning my AVCS.

Here's the stock setting:

AVCS affects fueling

Since I am increasing my VE with AVCS timing, I need to add more fuel. I've had this map for a few days but I am still having knock across the ranges.

I'm going to set my tip-in at the 5.2% cell. Let's see if this works since the smallest throttle % where knock occurred happened at about 4%.

Crossed 400bhp!

I've done a few rounds of AVCS tuning, mainly concentrating at my lower RPMs. I did a dyno run on last Friday night to see how it looks on a dyno run and I got more than 400bhp:

I did a second run which was a partial pull from 3500rpm and it was still more than 400hp and 462Nm@5752rpm:

But look at the speeds recorded - > 300km/h. I don't I hit those.. sorry to disappoint, I don't I achieved 400bhp.. :-(

Anyway, the runs above was done with a slightly higher octane (SPC 98) instead of Petronas and my fuel tank was almost empty (but still no fule indicator light yet).

Here's my current AVCS map. It feels ok but I adjust my tip-in, unlike my previous map:

I'm going to run on this for the next few days first to see how my car adjust to Petronas fuel since the last few days, I've been running this on SPC's 98.

One thing I am disappointed though is that I've not been able to widen my torque range nor have I been able to bring it lower. I'll need to do more reading up on this.

On the right track with my AVCS

My last AVCS map feels much better! I feel like I am on the right track now. But I do notice that it takes a while for the car to feel much better after re-flashing meaning some significant ECU learning is required. This is so unlike the other changes I've done. Surprising..

Got my Track Commander!

My Track Commander arrived by UPS yesterday. It was shipped to my parent's place but my brother didn't have enough money to pay the GST so it was not delivered. I had to go down to Changi to retrieve coz I didn't want to wait till Monday.

With this, now I can have more accurate lap timing at my track sessions. The device uses GPS to measure lap timings.

Here's the product website: http://www.rlc.com/RLC_Racing_Web_Site/Micro_Pod_Track_Commander.htm

I can't wait to test it out on the track. Costs me USD$1,190 coz I got the 10Mhz GPS.

Feels like crap

My last AVCS tune feels like crap. No power at all in my low end. I'm reverting back to my previous tune, increasing the areas close to where i hit my max boost (around 4000rpm) and also reduce slightly my low end.

Here's what it looks like:

AVCS Tuning 2

Ok, let's increase my AVCS timing:

Let's see how this goes :-)

Dyno figures for AVCS tune

Here's what my dyno graph for the last AVCS change. It's slightly down but I had my wife and son sitting at the back adding about 70kg more and I'm on half tank of gas.
335hp@6198 rpm, 412Nm@5486:

I don't think the AVCS tune will affect my high end much coz I didn't change my high load areas. But I do feel that my low end has much better throttle response.

Getting started on AVCS

There's another table called AVCS which according to web affects VE (Volumetric efficiency). I realised that Rene has changed my table value last time, so I've been running on non-stock values! Funny thing is the low end values are all 0!

Here's my first try at this table:

Current map:

My changes:

Here's what it should like when stock!!

I'll feedback on these changes next. :-)

Open Loop Fuel tuning

I've analysed my log for the dyno pulls and decided that I'm not going to tune my fuel for my lower loads as yet.

I made some changes to my AFR for my high load areas (running richer) since those areas are leaner than 12.5 (see red areas):

Green areas look ok, except for 4564 rpm but I'll monitor that area for now for future logs.

Ill stick to this for now and start with AVCS next coz I will need to retune my fuel again when I tune AVCS.

Re-think my fueling strategy

When I did the dyno runs, i did some runs with my innovate LM-1 and found that at high end cells the logged AFR is 12 - 12.3 is quite close to my target AFR of 12.5:1. So with a value of 11.76 in Open loop cells, that's about right.

My low end however tends to suffer when going lean. I'm going to focus on getting my high end AFR on the spot first and slowly move into the lower end cells.

Dyno figures using Data Log Lab

Now that I am starting to tune for power, I need a way to quantify how each map is performing relative to the other. ravenhil recommended Data Log Lab and after some tweaking with tips from romraider (see the post here), I've some dyno charts using my current map 20081231_300gHackFuelOpenLoopv2.

I'm using the gear ratios from this website

Run1: 361hp@6739rpm, 408Nm@5433rpm

Run2: 344hp@6137rpm, 385Nm@5976rpm

Run3:369hp@6574rpm, 387Nm@6383rpm

Well, although the figures vary with each run, sure it's about there. Take a look at Edge's dyno figures for PE1825 here. They achieved 347bhp@6628rpm but with 454Nm@5082rpm.

The hp figures are quite close but the torque figures are way above mine and it comes in earlier as well! That's something I have to work towards :-)

Getting started with my fueling

I'm going to focus my fueling tuning on 2 areas:

1. Whilst cruising
2. At 100% throttle

I've noticed on my Innovate my LM-1 that whilst cruising, my AFR is about 13.8 which is kind of rich. I've started to make some changes to push it to 14.4 and it seems to run fine. I'm going to try for 14.7.

As for 100% throttle, I'm going to push for 11.7 first and see how the car behaves (if there is knock).

Here's my current map:

And the changes:

The above map is 20081231_300gHackFuelOpenLoopv2.hex.

I'm going to target 14.7 for my cruising AFR.

Done with my tuning my timing

Ok, after spending about the past 3months tuning my timing. I feel I'm done with it now.

The map I tested at Pasir Gudang track is good with:
- 50-50 methanol injection
- Channel 3 of my SBC-ID which gives a max of 1.75bar of boost

The map is 20081229_300gHackFueTipIn.hex

My next focus will be to tune my fueling and AFR targets.

Time attack at Pasir Gudang

Happy New Year!! I can't believe that 2008 is finally over and 2009 is here. Time really flies.

Before the New Year arrived I went to PG track to test out my new map. My best time was only 2min 3s -> 4s off from my best time :-( I feel I have more than enough power but my car handling in the corners does not allow as fast turn in as I would want. Cornering speed is ok I guess.

One thing about my map is that I think I am running really rich coz my exhaust burnt part of my bumper.

The map I used for the track is: 20081229_300gHackFueTipIn.hex

I guess my next tuning focus is for open loop fueling. Since I am running with methanol, my AFR should be 12.5:1
